Zinc Zn cas:7440-66-6 is crucial in silver and gold refining, primarily as a precipitant in the Merrill-Crowe process to recover precious metals from cyanide solutions. Zinc dust or shavings reduce dissolved gold and silver, cementing them out of solution as solid metal. It is also used in Parkes process to remove silver from molten lead. Also handy in cleaning up spilled Mercury.
